Messages that help most

  • Errors. A date, an attribution or a version label that looks wrong. Give the address of the entry, the statement in question and the source that contradicts it. Corrections are listed on the entry and on Fixes to the Record.
  • An earlier record. A written record older than the earliest ink an entry gives. A lead is most useful with the title of the work, the edition, the page number and the date, and with a link if the text can be read online.
  • Editions and translations. A better edition of a text, an earlier printing, or a public-domain translation that could replace a short passage in the site's own translation. Naming the translator, the edition and the year helps most.
  • Reuse. Questions about the licence of a chart, a table or a CSV file, or about crediting it. The terms are set out on Reusing Charts and Images.
  • Privacy. Questions about what the site measures. The details are on Reader Privacy.

Requests the site does not take

  • Astrology, horoscopes, tarot readings or any other spiritual service. Constellations appear here only as astronomy and myth.
  • Religious guidance, or a verdict on whether any faith or practice is right or wrong.
  • Writing homework, essays or assignments. Entries can be cited instead, using the Cite this page block in each one.
  • Personal rulings on whether a particular legend really happened. The site asks who recorded a story, when and where, and how it changed between versions; what it can offer on any legend is the record, set out in the entry.

The way the records are checked is described on Following the Paper Trail, and what the site covers is on Start Here.
